About the City
Ideal NSW Coastal Holiday Destination - Beach, Lake or Mountain
Lake Macquarie offers a range of experiences – tranquil lake cruising, golden surfing beaches to untouched mountain wilderness walks and quaint waterfront towns.
The city boasts a range of natural attractions, one of the largest coastal salt-water lakes in the southern hemisphere, over four times the size of Sydney Harbour, long stretches of sandy beach and kilometres of untouched coastline. The backdrop to this water wonderland is the Watagan mountain wilderness area, a pristine environment that offers a bird’s eye view of the lower Hunter region.
Linking the beaches, lake and mountains are over ninety villages and communities dotted throughout the city. Quiet beachside suburbs, bustling lakeside communities, key town centres and sleepy mountainside villages all combine to give the city a relaxed tone.
An easy 90 minute drive north of Sydney allows visitors to escape their chaotic city life for a peaceful, laidback retreat, where you can not help but relax and enjoy the natural surrounds.
