Michelle Gearin: Portrait as Phoenix
Overview
Portrait as Phoenix is an ingress into the meditative space that the artist enters when making work and draws parallels to an isolated artistic studio practice.
“Being an autistic person, I have distinct visual and sound sensitivities and my film and sound works reflect this. My artistic practice has been gravitating more towards sound performance and film installation, being the most potent way of communicating an autistic experience.
I am currently exploring the intricate connections of timbral and temporal space, variations in texture and overtone complexity and the psychoacoustic phenomena that happen with sound frequency is layered and stretched.” Michelle Gearin
Portrait as Phoenix is on view as a video installation on the Node after sunset and as a responsive sound installation on the North Wall.
